World Book Day: Today we have enjoyed our ‘Festival of Reading’ to mark World Book Day! Throughout the day the children have taken part in various fun activities to celebrate all things books and reading! All children will be coming home with a book voucher today that can either be spent on a range of books at our book fair next week or at local book shops and supermarkets.

Book Fair: Following on from World Book Day, next week we welcome back the Scholastic Book Fair to LRPS! The book fair will be open on Thursday 14 March, Friday 15 March, Monday 18 March and Tuesday 19 March between 3:30 and 4:00pm in the Main Hall. Our school receive free books for all purchases made at the book fair. There will be a range of books on sale aimed at children of all ages. Payments at the book fair can be made in cash or via card by scanning a QR code on your mobile device. To see the range of books that will be on sale visit https://bookfairs.scholastic.co.uk/parents

Newcastle United Project: Last week we were delighted to welcome Newcastle United and England academy footballers Leo Shahar and Trevan Sanusi to Lemington Riverside to launch an exciting new project between our school and NUFC. Leo and Trevan talked to the children about the values of Newcastle United and how these link with our values at school. They also talked about all of the different jobs that people do at St. James’ Park. They set the first of a number of exciting challenges for our children around collaboration (working together). The children can earn ‘collaboration’ points in school on our ‘Track It Lights’ behaviour system for showing that they are working well together with others. The 30 children with the most ‘collaboration’ points by the Easter holidays will win a tour of St. James’ Park Stadium in the summer term! There will be more challenges to come in the summer term with equally as exciting prizes up for grabs!

Parents Evening: You will shortly be receiving an invite for our spring term parents evenings that take place on Monday 25th March and Tuesday 26th March between 3:45 and 6:00pm. We look forward to catching up with you about your child’s progress so far this year!

Easter: We are now collecting donations of Easter eggs for our 2024 Easter Egg Raffle. If you are able to donate any eggs or sweet treats, please drop them to the school office. As we have previously done, all children will receive one free strip of raffle tickets so that everybody is in with a chance of winning. In addition, this year we are guaranteeing that every child in the school will receive a special Easter gift from us all at school!

We will be visiting Sugley Church on the afternoon of Friday 22nd March for a special Easter Lemington Heroes Assembly. This is a local visit, so no written consent is required from parents/carers. If you have any questions about this visit, please speak to your child’s teacher.

Term dates for the rest of this school year: We break up for the Easter holidays at the end of Wednesday 27th March, returning for the new term on Monday 15th April. School is closed on Monday 6th May for the May Day Bank Holiday. We break up for half term at the end of Friday 24th May, returning to school on Monday 3rd June. Please note that Friday 14th June is a West End School’s Trust (WEST) staff training day and therefore school will be closed for all pupils on this day. We break up for the summer holidays on Friday 19th July. We will shortly be sharing the full term dates for the 2024/2025 academic year. We will send a text message/email to parents to let you know when these are on our website.

Early collections: Please note that children can only be collected in exceptional circumstances before the end of the school day and all early collections are at the discretion of the headteacher.

Tuition and clubs: Please can we remind parents/carers that it is your decision if you would like your child to attend after school tuition or clubs. If you sign your child up for tuition or clubs, they are expected to attend all sessions unless there is a good reason why they can’t. Please do not call the office asking staff to check if your child wishes to go to tuition or a club on the day of tuition as we often only have 1 person in the office and this can cause disruption to the running of the office. Thank you for your help with this, we appreciate it.

Parking: Please can we remind all vehicle users that the double yellow lines and yellow zig zags outside the school are there to keep all of our children safe. If driving a vehicle you should never stop or park on these lines. There are regular parking patrols around Newcastle schools are if you are caught stopping or parking on these lines you will be issued with a fixed penalty notice. Thank you for helping us to keep our children safe.

A new attendance and welfare officer: We are delighted to confirm that after the Easter holidays we will be joined by a new attendance and welfare officer who will work alongside Kim. She is called Emma McCartney and her appointment will boost our capacity to offer excellent support and guidance for our families on a wide range of matters.

Thank you to our families for your continued support!
