School meals update: July 2025
You may remember that back in March 2025 we were disappointed to share that Newcastle City Council had increased school meal prices from £2.10 (Nursery)/£2.20 (All other year groups) per child to £3.00 for all children.
As a school, we felt an 80p/70p increase per child, per day was an unjustified increase and we knew this would place significant pressure on our families that pay for school meals.
As a school, we agreed that we would subsidise the cost of meals until the summer term to avoid an immediate rise for families, but this could only be a short-term solution due to an increasingly tight school budget position.
From September 2025, we will increase the price of school meals to £2.50 per day for all children until the end of the Autumn term (Christmas 2025). This means that, as a school, we are still heavily subsidising the cost of meals for families whilst ensuring that any price increases are managed in a gradual way.
A reminder that children in Reception class, Year 1 and 2 are all entitled to Universal Free School Meals.
We hope that our families appreciate that we are trying to balance financial impact on our families, whilst also continuing to manage a tight budget situation for our school.
