Changes to school meal ordering

Following valuable feedback from parents, children and staff, we will be introducing a change to the way school meals are ordered from Monday 20 April (the first day back after the Easter break).

We have listened carefully to your views and hope these changes will improve the lunchtime experience for all children.

Why are we making this change?

The new system has been introduced to help us:

Ensure children always receive their first choice meal
Reduce food waste across the school
Make lunchtime quicker, smoother and more efficient

What will be different?

Each morning during registration, children will be asked to choose their lunch for that day. This choice will be recorded by staff on our electronic registration system. There will be photos of the meal choices displayed so that children can also see what they are ordering for their meal.

Orders will be finalised at 9:15am and sent to the kitchen
Dinner staff will have a printed list of choices to support children, particularly younger pupils
If a child forgets their choice, staff will be able to check this for them easily

What if my child arrives late?

If a child arrives after 9:15am, they will still be able to have a school meal, but choices will be limited to:

A jacket potato & filling option (cheese/baked beans or tuna), or
A sandwich or wrap option (range of fillings)

This is because our kitchen team need to know how much of each meal they will need to prepare by 9:15am each day.

We believe that these changes will make a positive difference to children’s experience at lunchtime and help the school run more efficiently. Thank you for your continued support and for the feedback that has helped shape this improvement.
