Early Years Newsletter – Autumn Term 2023

Dear Parents and Carers of children in Nursery and Reception classes,

Firstly, I want to say it’s been a pleasure to welcome and welcome back our children and families for the new term. The children are settling well and making progress every single day!

Our Early Years provision here at Lemington Riverside is busier than ever this year, with a full Nursery and only one space remaining in Reception!

Our Early Years team:

Our Early Years team are an experienced team of staff who are highly trained and dedicated to delivering the very best early years education for your child. Our team is as follows:

Early Years Leader: Miss Jeffcock

Nursery Teacher: Mrs. Corr

Reception Teacher: Mr. Jordan

Our teaching assistants in Early Years:

Mrs. Atkinson, Ms Martin, Miss Cunningham, Miss Quinn

Mrs. Wakenshaw also spends time teaching both Nursery and Reception each week.

Keeping in contact:

Our staff will always be located at the classroom entrance at the beginning and the end of each day. If you have any questions or queries, please speak to your child’s class teacher first. You can also send messages via the Tapestry app, but please note staff will only respond during their normal working hours.

If your child receives first aid or any medical treatment throughout the day we will notify you via an email through MediTracker. Please ensure that we always have your most up to date contact numbers & email address so that we can get in touch in case of emergency.

All children attending Lemington Riverside are expected to attend every day unless they are too unwell. Sometimes it’s tricky to know if your child is well enough to attend school or not – if you’re unsure, Google search ‘Is My Child too ill for school? NHS’ – this is a really useful website that will help guide you. If you’re still not sure, give us a call.

If your child is not going to be in school for any reason, you must let us know by 9am on the day of absence. You can do this by calling 0191 267 4315 at any time and selecting option 1. You can also email us at admin@lemingtonriverside.newcastle.sch.uk

30-hour Nursery offer:

We are one of the few primary schools in the area that offers 30 free hours of Nursery provision to all children who attend our school. Most settings only offer this to the children whose parents qualify for the 30 funded hours. All children have a staggered start to Nursery, meaning that we build up their hours gradually to ensure they are having successful days at school.

We are proud that our school is very inclusive. We educate children with a wide range of additional needs. Children are all at different stages developmentally and therefore will settle into Nursery and school-life at different paces. Our staff will communicate with parents/carers about how your child is settling in and will ensure that your child is accessing a timetable that enables them to have a happy and successful time in school.

Extra help and support:

We pride ourselves in being a school that is here not only for our children but our families as well. We have a dedicated welfare officer, Kim Cole, who is based in school – she is usually located at the main entrance of school every day and can help sign post you to a whole range of support. We all need a bit of help from time to time, please don’t ever feel you can’t approach us for a chat if you’re struggling with anything or worried about anything – we’ll do our best to help! You can email Kim on kim.cole@lemingtonriverside.newcastle.sch.uk you can also call or text her between 8:30am – 2pm Monday-Friday on 07494726407.

Riverside Wraparound Childcare:

We offer a paid-for wraparound provision, ‘Riverside Wraparound’ every day before and after school for parents who need additional childcare. Riverside Wraparound is open from 7:45am before school and until 6:00pm after school Monday-Friday and is exclusively for children who attend Lemington Riverside. Riverside Wraparound is £4 per child for the breakfast session and £9 per child for the evening session (or £12 per day for both) - breakfast is included in a morning and light evening meal in the evening. The provision is staffed by fully qualified members of the Lemington Riverside team.

Bravely different, proudly unique:

We’re proud to have built a school that is not afraid to be brave or different to benefit our children and community. Here are some of the things that make our school unique and special:

-  All children receive a free uniform bundle every September.

-  At the present time, all of our trips and learning experiences are fully funded by additional grants the school receives, meaning we never ask for parental contributions. This includes residential experiences for our older children.

-  Exclusive prizes and rewards for excellent attendance including £50 Amazon vouchers, Newcastle United shirts and ‘Feast Friday’ at our Lemington eateries.

We’re delighted you chose Lemington Riverside for your child’s early years education. We look forward to continue to working with you in the weeks, months and years ahead!

Mr. Heeley (Headteacher)
