Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome back for the start of an exciting new half term at Lemington Riverside! This is always a very busy, but exciting and magical half term as we build up to the excitement of Christmas activities!

Riverside Remembers:

This week we have a number of activities taking place in school to mark Remembrance Day when we remember those who have served in our Armed Forces over the years. Each morning this week between 8:45-9:00am we will have a range of ‘Poppy merchandise’ available priced at £1 per item. The shop will be located in the downstairs hall and then visit Nursery & Reception classes each day. All money raised will go to the Royal British Legion charity that supports members of the armed forces and their families. On Wednesday, we will be visited by the ‘West End in Schools’ theatre group who will be delivering ‘Poppies and Poetry’ workshops. On Friday 10th November, we will pause at 11:00am for 2 minutes of silence to remember those who have served our country in the armed forces.

School photos day: On Thursday 16th November the photographer will be in school taking individual and family photos. As ever, there is no obligation to purchase any of the photos, but each child will have their photo taken on the morning. We will organise in-school sibling photos on the day, but if you have pre-school aged children and would like them in a photo with their school-aged brothers/sisters, please come to the Dining Hall for 8:30am on the morning. If your child does not have pre-school siblings, they should come to school at the normal time and we will organise their photos.

Proposed new fencing around the school: We are currently working with Newcastle City Council on a proposal to heighten the perimeter fencing around the main playground and Early Years garden to make our school even more secure. You can view and comment upon the planning proposal by clicking here.

Read, Write, Inc Workshop for parents/carers: We use a phonics programme called ‘Read, Write, Inc.’ in school to help our children to become confident readers and writers. On Friday 10th November at 3pm, Ms Turner and Miss Jeffcock will be running a short introduction session for parents/carers to help you understand how Read, Write, Inc. works and how you can support your child at home. This is suitable for any parent/carer of children from Nursery up to Year 3.
