This began on Monday 19th June. The children are challenged to read for at least 10 minutes out of school everyday for 3 weeks until Friday 11th July! Parents will need to sign their sheet to confirm their daily reading. All children who complete the challenge will be given a prize. The children who read the most books from each key stage will also receive a prize! Come on - start reading!!
The year 4, 5 and 6 children had a brilliant time at Kingswood. It was excellent to see the high level of support and team work that they all displayed. Their behaviour was also excellent!
Thank you to all of the staff at Kingswood who were brilliant with both staff and children - we will be returning next year!
The children have enjoyed some challenging activities and they have risen to the challenge well. The children have been superstars.

The work in KS1 is currently planned to take place during the holidays - however, if this is brought forward then we will inform you of any class relocations we need to make. Thank you for your cooperation during this time.
We are looking forward to the improvement this will make to our school.

Young carers look after someone else because that person may have:
- Mental ill health
- Difficulties with alcohol or other substances
- A long term illness
- A life-limiting illness
- A disability
- A learning disability
Young Carers Drop In
There is a drop in on Wednesday at 9am for parents and at break time in school for pupils.
The School Council launched our School House System recently and the children are keen to earn points for their house!! The houses were decided by the children and they are named after the Newcastle bridges - Tyne, Millenium and Swing. The house point system will be linked to our certificate system to avoid two reward systems running throughout the school. The details of this are in our new Behaviour Policy which will be released soon.
We have updated our Behaviour Policy and this is available on the school website. There are quite a few changes to it.
We became an Operation Encompass school from 7th November. We will be informed by Social Care if any child has been involved in, the previous day, a domestic violence incident. This will enable us to know about children who are experiencing difficulties and support them as they may need it. If you have not received a letter about this or would like any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.
A big 'Thank You' to Vision Supply Agency who are continuing to supply one £5 voucher to our school on a weekly basis which can be used in the Metro Centre or Eldon Square. Children who have 100% attendance for that week will be entered into a draw and the winner will receive the voucher!!
In the light of the new 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' document we have recently updated our Safeguarding Policy. This is available on our Parents Section of the website under 'Policies'. We urge you to view it.
We would like to say thank you to parents and carers for continuing to help your children to learn their spellings!! We have recently looked at their books and there is a definite improvement in spelling across the school! The children are also improving their weekly spelling scores. Your support has had a positive impact!!
Family Support drop in - Paula Stone is available every Wednesday (term time) to give support with children's health, behaviour, attendance, problems at home and at school. You can also talk to a Nurse who will be there the first Wednesday of every month, in the Parents Room, Key Stage 1 building, 8:45 - 9:30am.
Thanks to Councillor David Cook for coming in to work with Eco and School Council, and Y3 to share ideas to help us to get involved in the local community.
Just the first set of photos from Dukeshouse Wood. There will be lots more next week.
