1st September 2022

Welcome to the 2022/2023 school year!

Dear parents, carers and the Lemington community,

I would like to express a huge welcome to all of our children and families as we start a brand new school year - we have a hugely exciting year ahead of us here at Lemington Riverside!

New staff:

We’d like to extend a warm welcome to some new members of staff who are joining us at Lemington Riverside this week. Mr. Jordan joins us as a new teacher, Kim Cole joins as our new Attendance & Welfare Officer and Mrs. Lowes joins us as a new teaching assistant.

IMPORTANT: End of day time changes for Nursery & Reception:

We are pleased to confirm that from the start of this term, the Nursery and Reception class days will be extended. This means that Nursery class will finish at 3:00pm Monday – Thursday (2:00pm Friday) and Reception class will finish at 3:15pm Monday – Thursday (2:15pm Friday). All other classes will continue to finish at 3:15pm Monday-Thursday and 2:15pm on Friday. Please note, the staggered start dates for Early Years children still apply this week.

Homework Club

Our free homework club will continue to operate every Friday until 3:15pm for all children who wish to attend – please ensure you have filled in the form that will be sent out on the paper version of this letter on Tuesday 6th September if you wish your child to attend.

Uniform:

Thank you for all of the lovely feedback re. our free uniform bundles this summer. We will continue to work hard to come up with innovative solutions to help everybody as the cost of living continues to pose so many challenges for us all. Due to a slight delay from our suppliers, some of the bundles were delayed, but everything has arrived now and should be with you this week if you didn’t receive it before we broke up for the summer. A reminder that children should wear school uniform every day. School uniform is a blue jumper/cardigan or hoodie, white polo shirt or button-up shirt/blouse, school trousers or skirt, school shoes or dark, plain trainers. PE kit is a plain white t-shirt and blue/black shorts/joggers and trainers or plimsolls.

We have a large stock of nearly new uniform in school available in a range of sizes that is always available on request. Please give us a call or drop us an email if you need any additional uniform.

Year 5 and 6 Residential to Ford Castle:
Our Year 5 and 6 children head off on their 2-night adventure residential to Ford Castle in Northumberland from Wednesday 14th to Friday 17th September. This residential has been fully funded by the school as part of our ‘Lemington Riverside Experience’. Further pre-departure information will be sent to parents/carers of Y5/6 children in the next few days.

Contact information:

It’s really important that we always have the most up to date contact information for you in school. If your number, address, or email have changed, please give us a call on 0191 267 4315 or email admin@lemingtonriverside.newcastle.sch.uk . Likewise, if anything changes with regards to your child’s medical or dietary information, please let us know straight away.

Free jewellery making taster session for parents, carers and grandparents:

We are pleased to be working with Newcastle City Learning to provide some free adult learning opportunities in school this year. First up, we have a free jewellery making session taking place 10am-12pm on Friday 23rd September in school. To sign up for your free place, please fill in the form on the paper copy of this letter that will be sent home on Tuesday 6th September. If we have a good number of people signing up, we will be able to offer a longer course.

Riverside Wraparound:

Our Riverside Wraparound service continues to run this half term offering cheap before and after school childcare from 7:45am up until 6pm daily. For more information, please visit the ‘Wraparound’ section of our website and to book, speak with Nicole in the school office.

Best wishes,

Mr. Heeley, Headteacher
