School Closure Information

19th March 2020

School Closure from Friday 20th March 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

I wish to reiterate, following yesterday’s government announcement, that Lemington Riverside Primary School will be closed to all from 2:30pm on Friday 20th March until further notice.  Updates will be given via the school website and Facebook/Twitter pages.

At the time of writing this, we are following guidance that we currently have available.  It is important to stress that schools may be asked to provide support for certain families but the main action is to limit the number of pupils and staff coming in and to encourage self-isolation in order to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

We will understand the extent of what we are being asked to do once further guidance is published but, at the moment, the offer of the provision will be made to families where there is where both parents or single parents with sole care of children are key workers.

It may be that only certain schools/buildings are open as part of any offer so those children may be asked to attend a different site than Lemington Riverside Primary School.  Please note that whilst we understand that everyone’s job is important at this time, our role is to support the curb of the virus. We are therefore duty bound to follow the current, provisional list which ONLY states:

  • Clinical National Health Service staff
  • Teachers and nursery nurses
  • Police officers, community support officers and some civilian police staff
  • Prison officers and some other prison staff
  • Probation Service staff
  • Social workers, educational psychologists and therapists
  • Local authority planners
  • Firefighters
  • Connexions personal advisers
  • Some Ministry of Defence personnel
  • Environmental health officers
  • Highways England traffic officers.

In order to plan our next steps, we will be identifying which of our children would qualify for this provision.  We will also contact any families where we feel children are vulnerable and may require support but this is at Local Authority discretion.

If you believe in your household that both parents or single parents with sole care of children are key workers, and you can provide us with evidence of your current role (ID badge, contract that identifies you by name and occupation) then please complete our online survey at https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/VY2CKJ8 or call 0191 267 4315.

Please note this is also subject to change in line with government guidance and staffing levels.

Yours sincerely

Mr. Heeley
