October 2022 Newsletter

Dear parents, carers and the Lemington community,

Riverside Wraparound

As you’ll be aware, before the summer holidays we received notice from St. George’s Primary School that they no longer wished to share our wraparound service provided here at Lemington Riverside. That decision has provided some challenges for us, as the majority of children attending the wraparound provision were from St. George’s. We do, however recognise that for those LRPS families that do use the wraparound service, it is of great value, so we have been working hard to come up with a solution.

Our wraparound service is operated by the school on a not for profit basis. We do not make any profit from wraparound, but we have to make sure we are also not losing money. From after October half term (Monday 31st October), children attending wraparound should be dropped off and collected from the Main School Office. There will also be a small increase in the charge for wraparound as follows to ensure we can cover staffing and food costs with the smaller number of children attending:

  • Morning session (7:45 – beginning of the school day), including breakfast: £4 per child, per day.
  • Evening session (Home time – 6pm), including a light tea: £9 per child, per day.
  • If your child attends both breakfast and evening sessions in a day they are entitled to a discounted rate of £12 per day, per child.

We have ensured that these prices are in line and cheaper than other local childcare providers. A price comparison leaflet is available from the school office on request.

To book your child to attend wraparound you must inform the school office and payment must be received in advance of your child attending the sessions.

‘Spooky Friday’ for Halloween on Friday 21st October

On Friday 21st October we invite all children to dress up in Halloween costumes for the day for our ‘Spooky Friday’. There will be Halloween activities across the school and we have ordered face paints if children wish to get their faces painted in school. If you are able to, we would be grateful for a £1 contribution that will go towards providing free trips and experiences for our children.

Exciting development work in school:

We are delighted to be able to share two exciting building projects that will begin in school soon. Firstly, our main building will have two brand new toilet blocks constructed for the children. The existing blocks will be demolished with the new toilets being constructed in what were the old cloakrooms. This will provide much more modern and pleasant toilet facilities for our children.

Further to this development, our downstairs hall will be fully refurbished during the half term holidays – this will include a brand new floor and freshly painted walls. Following on from the Lemington ‘Doodle Map’ and new projector equipment, this will complete the refurbishment of this important space in our school.

Home time pick-up arrangements:

Please note, from next Monday 10th October, children in Years 4, 5 and 6 will be dismissed on the main playground along with children from Years 1, 2 and 3. This follows feedback from parents who said this was easier when you are collecting younger siblings.

Key dates for your diary:

Monday 10th October – Year 5 begin 10-day intensive swimming course.

Wednesday 12th October – Nursery parent’s evening.

Friday 21st October – ‘Spooky Friday’ to celebrate Halloween.

Friday 21st October – We break up for October half term.

Monday 31st October – Children return to school following the half term holiday.

Monday 31st October – Year 3 road safety workshop.

Wednesday 9th November – Individual child and family school photos day.

Don’t forget our free ‘Stay and Play’ sessions continue every Wednesday during school term-time, 9:30am – 10:30am in the main hall.

Kind regards,

Mr. Heeley (Headteacher)
