May 2022 Newsletter
Dear parents, carers and the Lemington community,
I hope you all had a good Easter, it was great to welcome all of our children back to school last week for the start of the summer term. The summer term is always full of so many exciting activities and events – there is lots for us to look forward to!
Ofsted inspection:
As you will be aware, we were visited by Ofsted for our inspection last week. Her Majesty’s Inspector, Alison Aitchison wishes to pass on her thanks to all of the children and parents/carers for your help during the inspection. As soon as we have the report, we will share it with you all.
Year 5/6 inspired by a trip to St. James Park:
It’s amazing what difference it makes when your local football team are doing well! It’s been great to feel the ‘buzz’ around Newcastle United’s recent success in school and in the community. Just before Easter, our Year 5/6 children visited St. James’ Park for a stadium tour – they have also been working with local sports journalist (and ex-Lemington Riverside pupil!) Mark Carruthers on an exciting writing project. Two lucky children will win an incredible prize when Mark judges the competition later this term – keep your eyes peeled! Following the visit, we were delighted to receive a Tweet from co-chairman of Newcastle United, Mehrdad Ghodoussi!
Early Years visit Lilliput Lane:
Role play is so important to children to help them develop their communication, listening and imagination. Before the Easter break, our Nursery and Reception children enjoyed a fabulous visit to the Lilliput Lane imaginative play centre in Felling. The children had a great time!
Easter Raffle – A huge thank you!
A huge thank you to everybody who donated prizes for our recent Easter Raffle and to all those who bought tickets. I am delighted to inform you that we raised a whopping £370 for school funds!
Archery sessions:
This week we welcomed ‘Wellbeing North East’ to Lemington Riverside who delivered archery lessons to all children in years 4, 5 and 6. We are always passionate about introducing our children to as many different experiences and activities as possible in our wider curriculum.
Music lessons:
We are pleased to confirm that later this term we will be working with the Newcastle Music Partnership and music activities will be delivered in all classes from Nursery up to Year 6 in school by professional music teachers.
Homework club:
Homework club continues to run every Friday from home-time until 3:15pm. Please note, you will need to fill in a new consent form if you wish your child to attend homework club from this term. From this week, you will also need to collect your child at 3:15pm and no earlier (as this disrupts the activities at homework club) – thanks for your help with this.
Sports Day:
I am delighted to confirm that we will be having a sports day again this year! We will confirm the date/time soon. Due to the lack of green space within our own school it is not possible to hold sports day within our school grounds, however I’m pleased to confirm Mrs. Simpson (Head of Knop Law Primary) has kindly agreed to let us host our sports day on their school field. We did this back in 2019 and it was a great occasion!
Dates for your diary:
