March 2023 Newsletter

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we enter the second week of Spring Term 2, here are some of the latest updates from Lemington Riverside:

THE GREAT LEMINGTON RIVERSIDE EASTER EGG RAFFLE 2023:

As we approach Easter, we are pleased to confirm the return of our Easter Egg raffle that will this year take place on Thursday 30th March. If you or any businesses you know can donate any Easter eggs, we would be most grateful – please drop any donations at the school office. As ever, we aim to be as inclusive as we can and all children will receive one free strip of raffle tickets so that everybody has the chance to win a prize. Additional raffle tickets will also be on sale every day from Monday 20th March between 8:45 and 9:00am at the school office, priced at £1 per strip. All money raised will go towards covering the costs of educational trips and experiences for our children.

BLACK & WHITE DAY/WORLD BOOK DAY/LEMINGTON ROCKS:

Over the past few weeks we have enjoyed some great whole-school celebration days. The children looked fantastic in black and white ahead of Newcastle United’s cup final appearance – although we were disappointed by the result, the children were fantastic and their video of them singing “The Blaydon Races” was viewed by over half a million people around the world!

Last Thursday we marked World Book Day and were pleased to be joined by author Christina Gabbitas who shared her stories with all children across the school. Christina also delivered a powerful workshop to Year 5/6 focusing on the issues of knife crime and county lines. We were also joined by Northumbria Police colleagues and Metro Radio who covered the story on their news bulletins.

Finally, on Friday we had our ‘Lemington Rocks’ day with a celebration of Times Table Rockstars and Numbots across the school. The children looked great and the day was topped off by our ‘Rock Off’ event that saw Amber Appleton crowned the ultimate LRPS Times Table Rockstar!

LEMINGTON RIVERSIDE GIRLS FC:

A huge well done to Lemington Riverside Girl’s Football Club who finished the season in a very impressive second place. It is their first season playing together and they have represented the school with pride and passion – we are all very proud of them.

ATTENDANCE REMINDERS:

-       A reminder that you must inform us before 9am if your child is not going to be in school for any reason. The easiest way to do this is by calling 0191 267 4315 and pressing option 1. You can also email us admin@lemingtonriverside.newcastle.sch.uk

-       We work closely with Newcastle City Council to monitor children’s attendance and if your child’s attendance drops below 90% we have attendance monitoring channels that we have to follow as advised by the Local Authority. If there are any barriers impacting upon your child’s attendance, we want to work with you to help get them sorted.

-       Early collections from school can only be granted in rare circumstances and must always be approved by the headteacher. Medical appointments for children should always be made outside of school time wherever possible. When they are in school time, an appointment letter or card must be provided to the school office if we are to be able to authorise the absence.

COFFEE MORNING:

Our next parent/carer coffee morning takes place on Tuesday 21st March between 9:05 – 10:15am. There will be free hot drinks and sweet treats. The focus of this coffee morning will be supporting your child’s mental health; we will be joined by special guests from Children North East.
