June 2022 Newsletter
Dear parents, carers and the community,
Welcome back to school for the second half of the summer term. This is always an exciting time of year with lots happening and hopefully some lovely warm weather to go alongside it!
Jubilee events:
Thank you so much to everybody who came along to and contributed to our Platinum Jubilee events on the Friday before we broke up. It was a lovely morning and it was great to see so many people in attendance. Through our ‘Great British Bake Off’ coffee shop we raised £90 for school funds. Thanks also to Julie Stephens and her colleagues at the Lemington Centre who organised some fantastic activities for the children throughout the day. All in all, a great community event!
Uniform bundles:
We all know how tricky things are for everybody right now with the cost of living increasing. We are pleased to confirm that we will be offering a free uniform bundle for all LRPS children ready for September 2022. We hope that this will ease at least one expense for our families this summer. More information will follow soon in a separate letter.
We are also pleased to announce that we are opening our ‘Uniform Exchange Service’ here at LRPS. Please donate any uniform, in good condition, that your child has grown out of/no longer wears. Likewise, if you would like to request any pre-loved uniform, give us a call on 0191 267 4315 or email admin@lemingtonriverside.newcastle.sch.uk with your child’s sizes and if we have any uniform in stock in their sizes we will let you know. All uniform will be available free of charge, if you would like to make an optional donation, it will go towards school funds.
Charlton Street Community Hub development:
You may be aware, if you attended our Jubilee event, of the exciting development of a new community hub in the upper building on our school site. The hub will be ran separately to the school by ‘Action for Children’ under the banner of ‘Children & Families Newcastle’. It will be offering services & activities for all of the community in addition to those already on offer. You will notice some refurbishment work taking place in the upper building over the coming months. If you have any views about services or activities that you feel would be beneficial to our community, the team would very much like to hear your views – you can email them through to lucy.brown@newcastle.gov.uk
Staffing updates:
At the end of the summer term we will be saying farewell to Paula Stones, who has worked as our Welfare Officer at Lemington Riverside for a number of years. Paula has worked with every child at our school at some point and will have supported many of our families during her time at Lemington Riverside. Paula will be moving on to a new challenge and we will miss her hugely, but wish her the very best for her new adventures. Paula has made an enormously positive impact on the lives of children at Lemington Riverside during her time at our school.
Paula will be succeeded by Kim Cole who will be our new Attendance and Welfare Officer – Kim will be working with us five days a week and, like Paula, has many years of experience supporting children and families. Kim will be working alongside Paula for a number of days between now and the end of term to ensure a smooth handover ready for her starting in her new position from September.
I have to inform you that Mrs. Crowe, after a number of years of service to the pupils of Lemington Riverside Primary School, has decided to resign her post for personal reasons. I would like to thank Mrs. Crowe for all of her service to the school and the community.
