JULY 2019 – NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents, Families and the Community of Lemington,

We are fast approaching the end of the 2018/2019 school year and what a busy and exciting one it has been for our school. It’s now over half a year since I took over as your Head Teacher and we have made lots of big steps forward in that time.

I am really keen to hear your views on how we are doing – there is a survey online at https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/YVFR2N3 (there’s also a direct link from our Facebook and Twitter pages that will be easier than typing the link in!) Please complete the survey before 7th July 2019 for the chance to win a £10 ‘Coffee on the Corner’ voucher – thank you!

LEMINGTON FESTIVAL:

A huge thank you to everybody who came along to the Lemington Festival on Saturday 29th June. It was a fantastic turn out! We were delighted to welcome the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Newcastle, Catherine McKinnell MP and Councillor Kim McGuinness to help us unveil our brand new school logo as designed by Jack and Daniel. It was also great to welcome the choir from St. George’s RC Primary School – I’m really passionate about us continuing to build links with other local schools and community organisations. We hope you love our new logo and signage as much as we do!

PARENTS EVENINGS/REPORTS:

This week we have been holding parents evenings in school and it’s been great to catch up with so many of you. We have also sent out end of year reports and this year we have changed the format of our reports so that we can really focus in on the personal comment about your child.

WEBSITE UPGRADE:

Our website has been re-designed and is looking rather smart! Check it out at lemingtonriverside.newcastle.sch.uk – there is useful information about all aspects of school life and an up to date calendar to help you plan for the year ahead.

SPORTS DAY:

We are delighted to be hosting our first Sports Day this year. Thank you to Knop Law Primary School for lending us their school field for the morning! Some key information about Sports Day:

-  It takes place at Knop Law Primary School (Hillhead Parkway, Chapel House, NE5 1DS) on Tuesday 16th July and will start at 10:00am. Car parking is available at the school.

-  We will provide transport for the children, but adults will need to make their own way there.

- There will be a refreshment stall with all money raised going to school funds. Only adults will be allowed to purchase from here, but you can purchase items for your child.

-  Children should wear their PE kit for school on this day. If the weather is forecast to be sunny please apply sun cream and ensure your child has a sun hat and a bottle of water.

-  Children will have lunch in school as normal when they return.

-  There will be a designated space for parents to watch the events from, please stay in this space to allow us to organise the event efficiently.

TRANSITION DAY:

On Monday 8th July children will spend the day with their new class teacher. Please drop your child off at their usual drop off point – we will then have a whole-school assembly and then children will go off with their new teacher. We are pleased that our new Year 6 teacher, Mr. Murphy will be in school on this day. Our Year 6 children who are moving to Walbottle Campus in September will have their two transition days on Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th July.

END OF TERM:

On the final day of term there will be a special farewell assembly for our Year 6 children at 1:30pm – parents of Year 6 children are invited to join us for this assembly. If parents cannot make the afternoon assembly due to work commitments, we are happy to accommodate you at our 9:15am assembly (please speak to Mrs. Jamieson in advance if you’d like to come along in the morning.

We break up for the Summer Holidays at the earlier time of 2:30pm on Friday 19th July. Children return to school for the new school year on Tuesday 3rd September from 8:45am. Our whole-school topic theme for Autumn Term 1 will be “The Mighty North” when each class will learn about a different aspect about what makes the North of England great!

I wish you and your families a very pleasant summer break and would like to place on record my thanks for making me feel so welcome in your community since I arrived in January. There are certainly many exciting times ahead for us all here at Lemington Riverside Primary School!

Take care,

Mr. Heeley (Head Teacher)
