February 2022 Newsletter
Dear Parents and Carers,
It’s been a busy start to 2022 at Lemington Riverside! In this newsletter we bring you up to date with news from school as well as up and coming events!
Lemington Riverside ‘Take Over’ at Newcastle Thunder game:
Yesterday (Sunday 6th February) a number of Lemington Riverside children and parents visited Kingston Park as our school ‘took over’ for the Newcastle Thunder rugby match. The children enjoyed a question and answer session with a first team player, gave a guard of honour to the two teams as they entered the pitch and played some games of rugby on the pitch at half time! Everybody had a great time and we hope to arrange another ‘take over’ day at Newcastle Thunder soon.
Early Years visited Tynemouth Aquarium:
Last week, Nursery and Reception enjoyed a brilliant visit to Tynemouth Aquarium where they met lots of different creatures including sharks, stingrays and seals! There are some lovely photos of the visit and it’s lovely to see the awe and wonder on the faces of the children!
LRPS selected as a new ‘Lego League’ school:
More exciting news this month… Lemington Riverside is one of just a handful of schools in the North East that have been selected to become a ‘Lego League’ school. This is a science and technology project that children across the school will be involved in. We have had a huge delivery of Lego ready for the project to begin later this year!
Parent/carer evening: Wednesday 16th and Thursday 17th February
Next week we look forward to meeting with parents and carers to update you on your child’s progress in school this year. Please look out for a separate letter advising you how to book your appointment. As with previous parents’ evenings, there will be the option of meeting in person, getting an update over the phone or an update via email.
Year 3 visited the Great North Museum:
On Tuesday 25th January our Year 3 children enjoyed a dinosaur and fossil-themed visit to the Great North Museum in Newcastle.
Swimming:
Our Year 6 children have enjoyed a series of free swimming lessons at the Royal Grammar School in Newcastle this term. After half term, Year 5 will take part in a 10 day intensive swimming course at Gosforth Pool – more details will be sent to Year 5 parents in due course.
Footballs:
To help keep everyone safe before school and at playtimes and lunch-times, we ask that from Wednesday 9th February children do not bring footballs in from home. We have ordered a large quantity of foam footballs that can be used by children at play-times and lunch-times. Thank you for your support with this.
Dodgeball Tournament:
Good luck to a selection of Year 4 children who represent LRPS in the Outer West Learning Trust Dodgeball Tournament at Simonside Primary School this Friday 11th February!
Riverside Wraparound:
Our before and after school wraparound is open again this term between 7:45 – 8:45am and 3:15 – 6pm every day. To find out more visit our website and go to the ‘Parents’ tab and then select ‘Riverside Wraparound’. To book your child into the wraparound provision, please contact Nicole in the school office on 0191 267 4315 or email admin@lemingtonriverside.newcastle.sch.uk
