FEBRUARY 2020 NEWSLETTER
Dear Parents, Carers and the Community of Lemington,
It’s been a busy first half term back at school! It’s been fantastic to see children right across the school earning (and now spending!) their house points. The vast majority of children look extremely smart in their uniforms and attendance to date this term is looking very strong.
PARENT/CARER SURVEY:
Thank you to everybody who completed our online parent and carer survey in December. We always appreciate your feedback so that we can continue to develop our school into one that we can all be proud of. Following the results of this survey we have developed our new ‘Homework Menus’ which so far are proving to be popular with a lot of children. Well done to Jack’s mum from Year 1 who was drawn out to win the £10 ‘Coffee on the Corner’ voucher for completing the survey. The full results from the survey can be found on our website in the ‘Parents’ section.
#CAUGHTREADING AT CHRISTMAS:
A huge well done to all of our children who were #CaughtReading at Christmas! We shared over 30 photos via our social media channels! The winning entries, who each won a brand new book, were Isla-Lily Thompson (Early Years), Willow Kelly (Key Stage 1) and Annalise Forster-Minto (Key Stage 2). Thank you to everybody who took the time to send these photos in, they will now be used to make a great new display in school!
SPORT:
On Wednesday 15th January our Year 5 and 6 boy’s football team took part in the Newcastle and Northumberland Small School’s Tournament at Gosforth Academy. Following a very strong performance we eventually lost in the final.
On Monday 3rd February we played Farne Primary in the 4th Round of the Bob Maddison Cup. After a thrilling game we ran out 5-3 winners with goals from Kai Thirtle (hat-trick), Jack Carter and Liam Carver. We now face either Benton Park or St. Cuthbert’s Walbottle in the Semi Finals!
Our dancers continue to work hard preparing for their performance at the Dance Festival in April 2020.
Well done to our Y5/6 basketball team who finished 4th out of 8 teams at the Outer West Basketball Championships at Throckley Primary School.
PARENT/CARER MEETINGS:
It was great to see so many of you at our parent/carer meetings last week. Don’t forget we are happy to chat with you at any point if you ever have any questions or queries about your child’s learning in school.
FRIENDS OF LEMINGTON RIVERSIDE PRIMARY SCHOOL:
I am keen to speak with any parents or carers who would like to form a ‘Friends of Lemington Riverside Primary School’ group. The group would help us to organise events (such as discos/competitions) in school to provide great out-of-school experiences for our children as well as raising much needed funds for our school.
If you are interested in being a part of this group, please let me know!
PARENT GOVERNOR VACANCIES:
We current have three parent governor vacancies on our Governing Body. If you would like to apply to be a parent governor, please visit the vacancies section of our website, or alternatively pick up an application form from the school office. The deadline for applications is Friday 14th February.
COFFEE MORNING:
We have an open morning and coffee morning this Friday 14th February in school between 9:15am and 11:00am. We would love any donations of cakes and sweet treats on Friday morning. All money raised will go towards the Eco Council’s campaign to adopt a koala bear in Australia!
Thank you for your continued support,
Take care,
Mr. Heeley (Head Teacher)
